The Aldebaran is an impressive and elegant sailing ship, built with craftsmanship and designed for speed. With a sail area of 445 square meters and her slender underwater hull, she is a fast and agile sailor, perfect for adventurous trips on the Wadden Sea and other waters.
The history of the Aldebaran
The history of the Aldebaran dates back to 1883, when it was built as a two-masted river clipper by the renowned shipyard “Ruitenberg”. Originally commissioned by the Bruynincks family, the ship was named Baronie and was used to transport goods such as grains, coal and hay along the canals and rivers of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. In 1913, the ship changed hands and was renamed Spes Salutes, after which it remained active as a freighter until 1988.
After being saved from scrapping by Willem van Gelderen and Moniek van der Werff, the ship was carefully restored and converted into a luxury sailing vessel in 2010. Today, under the ownership of Frank Fischer, the Aldebaran continues to combine her rich heritage with modern comforts, making it a unique ship that carries its history with pride.
